Regular Fairy Tale in a New Vintage

A perfect princess is waiting for prince charming to come and rescue her. He finds her and they live happily ever after. That is the plot of any regular fairytale. But what if you would switch the young beautiful princess against a, messy, verbally incontinent woman who drinks and smokes far too much. The result is Bridget Jones, in a fun and well written comedy.

Bridget Jones, An average, single, British woman in her early thirties who still haven’t found the perfect mister Mr. Right decides, after another single new years eve, to take control of her life and start to write a diary. With growing confidence she starts to gain interest in two men:
Her boss at work, the sexy and charming Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) and Mark Darcy (Colin Firth),, A successful lawyer who Bridget overhears calling her a “Verbal incontinent spinster” during the first time they meet.

Therefore she put her aim on Daniel who turns out to be far from the Mr. Right she dreams of.
Their short and erotic based relation breaks to pieces and she switch to a carrier in the television news. Later on when her interest for Mark finally starts to emerge, he gets “stolen” by the man-eating lawyer Natasha who wants to marry him. Meanwhile Bridget’s parent’s marriage is crumbling and Daniel tries desperately to get her love back again.

This movie is - as all romantic comedies – very predictive which makes the move less exiting. Although it’s filled with brilliant humour that definitely is going to make you laugh. Who isn’t concerned about what clothes we wear and what words we say in public? When the screen then pictures Bridget, a person who almost never wear the right clothes and is a terrifying public speaker and who on the same time have a talent for embarrassing herself, it gives enjoyable moment of laughter that last throughout the whole movie.
When it comes to the acting I can only give another standing applaud. Renée Zellweger is brilliant as the messy Bridget. Her natural charm melts trough the screen into the sole, tearing down any critic thought about the movie.
As Daniel Cleaver, Hugh Grant seams almost custom made. You hate him for his way but still you pity him for being so pathetic. Another brilliant actor is Colin Firth as Mark Darcy. His appearance totally expresses the sophisticated authority a lawyer should have and his low tone enlarges that image making him a perfect character.

Bridget Jones diary is a movie full of trough and brilliant moment of humour. A Fairytale in new vintage, full of unexpected turning points and br...
